LINEUP ADDITION: SONGCATCHING HAZEL: A HAZEL DICKENS TRIBUTE FT. ELI WEST, ISMAY, & PAPER WINGS

As one of the greatest voices in Bluegrass, Hazel Dickens was a pioneer for women and activism in the genre. Over the past year, three up-and coming roots artists have collaborated in an effort to keep her voice and work in the repertoire of modern bluegrass. Eli West, Ismay (Avery Hellman), and Paper Wings have all found deep inspiration in Hazel’s work, and seek to share her original songs along with stories of her life on the Strawberry Stage.

Visit our website for more information, or to buy tickets to see this special presentation by Eli West, Ismay, and Paper Wings, along with many other talented artists, at Strawberry Music Festival Spring 2019, taking place May 23 – 27 at the Nevada County Fairgrounds in Grass Valley, CA. For more details or to purchase tickets by phone, call the Strawberry office M-F, 9-5 at (209) 984-8630.

THE DUSTBOWL REVIVAL TO RETURN TO STRAWBERRY SPRING 2019

The Dustbowl Revival is an eight-piece Americana and soul band, known for combining the sounds of New Orleans funk, bluegrass, soul, pre-war blues, and roots music into a genre-hopping, time-bending dance party. The Dustbowl Revival formed in 2007, when the band’s original member, Zach Lupetin, a Midwesterner having recently relocated to L.A., posted an ad on Craigslist in hopes of creating a group inspired by brass band and string band traditions. Since that time, The Dustbowl Revival has surpassed all expectations, going from L.A. Weekly’s “Best Live Band,” to opening for bands as diverse as Lake Street Dive, to Trombone Shorty and The Preservation Hall Jazz Band, to touring China as a guest of the State department, and headlining festivals like Delfest, Floydfest, and Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. With their latest self titled full length release, produced by the Grammy award winning Ted Hutt, the band has evolved beyond the confines of its origins and their sound has become even more distinguished. They have become something of a household name for music lovers and at venues and events across the U.S., and beyond, since they made their Strawberry debut at the Spring 2015 Festival. We’re thrilled for The Dustbowl Revival to return, in 2019, with their joyous and vibrant mix of vintage Americana sounds and we hope to see you there!

RON ARTIS II TO KICK OFF MAIN STAGE SUNDAY AFTERNOON

Hailing from Oahu, Hawaii since the age of four, Ron Artis II grew up immersed in a creative and religious household, led by his musically gifted parents. While developing his multi-instrumental prowess playing in the Artis Family Band, Ron quickly took to piano and guitar as his main modes of expression. His mastery of both, led to invitations to play with numerous nationally touring performers, such as Mick Fleetwood, Jack Johnson, and Booker T Jones. Now, Ron Artis II has embarked on three full US tours, playing sell out shows from coast to coast, with his long list of collaborators. His debut full length album, “Soul Street” just dropped in early April 2018 and has already garnered wide critical praise. The record crystallizes the full range of Ron’s influences, deep Delta blues and gospel, plus Northern soul and R&B, into a tight collection of fresh yet familiar songs that are at once urgent and timeless. His music only need be heard to understand what a thousand words couldn’t say about this individual’s ability.

Enjoy this video, one of many great samples available of this artist’s work, then visit the Ron Artis II performer profile, on our website, to learn more about him. To buy tickets to see Ron Artis play on Sunday, May 26th, at the Spring 2019 Strawberry Music Festival, or for more information, visit our website or call our office M-F, 9-5 at (209) 984-8630.

NATHAN IGNACIO MAKES HIS MAIN STAGE DEBUT THIS SPRING

Nathan Ignacio is a very talented multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter. His extensive repertoire includes guitar, dulcimer, mandolin, harmonica, piano, and bass, playing many of these simultaneously during his one-man-band shows. Ignacio’s style is primarily born of the rock, bluegrass, and Americana genres and last year, he released the solo album, titled “A Step Behind,” consisting mostly of original compositions. Both in recording and in live performance, he demonstrates his knack for variety, by using carefully selected cover songs to broaden his musical story. Nathan totally wowed the crowd last Fall Festival, during his set at the Sunday morning Revival. In fact, he has been playing music, at Strawberry, for so long that it might come as a surprise that this will be his first performance on the Main Stage. We’re very excited for Nathan Ignacio to open the Spring 2019 Strawberry Music Festival, at 5:00pm on Thursday, May 23rd, and we hope to see you there!

Tonight you can find Nathan Ignacio supporting the arts, as special host of the St. Charles Saloon’s weekly Monday open mic night. https://www.facebook.com/events/505918466564915/

PLEASE WELCOME SUGARCANE JANE TO STRAWBERRY LINEUP

Each in this dynamic duo is a virtuosic talent in his, and her, own right and together, as Sugarcane Jane, they have a sound that is the perfect mix of soul quenching cool and heartwarming heat. Anthony Crawford (vocals, acoustic guitar, harmonica), has enjoyed a long career in the music business, as both a sought after recording and performing artist for numerous nationally renowned acts, as well as owner of Admiral Bean Studio in Loxley, Alabama. He met his wife, and musical partner in Sugarcane Jane, Savana Lee (vocals, ukulele bass), while laying down tracks at her vintage analog recording studio in Nashville, TN. The music, as well as family and a budding romance led them back home to the Gulf Coast, where they have amassed a loyal following of fans. Wherever they go, Sugarcane Jane is adored for their homegrown brand of mostly acoustic Americana, drawing influences from gospel, country, folk, rock, and roots genres. Whatever the temperature, Sugarcane Jane is just right for the Strawberry climate. We can’t wait to see you there, on the first day of the Spring 2019 Strawberry Music Festival!

CRYING UNCLE BLUEGRASS BAND JOINS THE SPRING STRAWBERRY LINEUP

There is no better way to kick off Friday’s Main Stage festivities, than with these four talented young musicians who make up Crying Uncle Bluegrass Band, each packing an instrumental skill impressive at any age. Brothers Miles and Teo Quale, National and State Champion fiddlers and pickers, are joined by award-winning bassist Andrew Osborn and former CBA Youth Ambassador guitarist John Gooding. Grown from the CBA youth music culture, these Northern California based players have already worked very hard, in a short amount of time, to become a musical force to be reckoned with. We’re so happy that their efforts have brought them to the Strawberry stage and are looking forward to enjoying their performance alongside some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. We hope to see you there!
