KORA FEDER TO KICK OFF STRAWBERRY’S MAIN STAGE ON SUNDAY

Kora Feder is a talented, young singer-songwriter multi-instrumentalist who is creating a bright future for herself in the here and now.  She was raised on the best of Northern California’s folk scene and, as daughter to Rita Hosking and Sean Feder, it seems that a musical life is in her DNA.  And yet, it is by her own efforts and with a style totally her own that Kora Feder’s artistry soars.  While in pursuit of a Global Studies degree with a focus on songwriting empowerment in indigenous and migrant communities, Feder spend over two years wielding a backpack and guitar in far off places that include China, India, Thailand, and Italy. In 2017, she graduated and recorded her debut solo EP, “Marigolds”.  The set of 5 original songs was met with glowing reviews, described as “a melodic salutation to all that is neglected and forgotten by a world at the mercy of Father Time; the carefully conceived work of a thoroughly engaging and exceptionally capable storyteller” (A Lonely Ghost Burning).  Earlier this year, Feder was chosen to perform as a songwriting finalist at both the Kerrville Folk Festival and the Telluride Bluegrass Festival.  And in just a few years time, this lovely luminary went from being a Strawberry Kid to providing acclaimed accompaniment to the Rita Hosking Trio on the Main Stage, the Big Bear Stage, and at Sunday morning Revival.  It’s an especially great pleasure to welcome Kora Feder for her first solo performance on Strawberry’s Main Stage, at this year’s Fall Festival.

JOHN CRAIGIE TO DEBUT AT FALL STRAWBERRY

Referred to as a “Modern-Day Troubador,” John Craigie is an American singer-songwriter who has practically been living on the road since his recording and touring career began in the early 2000’s.  During that time, he has recorded six studio albums, two live albums, and two cover albums, including his most recent full length vinyl titled “Scarecrow”, released earlier this year.  He has performed with, and/or opened for, a cavalcade of stars, and has received bookings at top festivals across the West Coast.  Folk music fans are quickly taking note of Craigie’s poignant storytelling and songwriting style, and he is said to carry the torch for classics, such as Ramblin’ Jack Elliot and Woody Guthrie, while blazing an Americana trail completely his own.  We’re so pleased to announce that John Craigie will make his Strawberry debut at this year’s Fall Festival and we hope to see you there.

GRAND MARSHALS OF COLUMBIA’S GLORIOUS 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION: CACTUS BOB & PRAIRIE FLOWER

Congratulations to Bob Cole and Chris Stevenson (AKA Cactus Bob and Prairie Flower) who were the Grand Marshals of Columbia’s Glorious 4th of July celebration yesterday.  As many of you know, both Bob and Chris are founding members of the group, Fiddlestix, (along with Dave Cavanagh and Sarah Elizabeth Campbell) who played as the house band at Strawberry for many years.  They are leaders of super fun musical activities at the festival, such as the Band Scramble and the Contra Dance, and their camp has been home to countless legendary jams over the years.  In addition, Chris Stevenson is a senior member of Strawberry staff, who has worked in the office to prepare for our bi-annual gatherings for the better part of three decades.  We are happy to see these two honored for their many contributions to our shared musical communities and to music being played in the street everywhere, at this most glorious celebration.  We love you Cactus Bob and Prairie Flower!

THE BROTHERS STRONG TO OPEN FALL STRAWBERRY

The Brothers Strong are known for high level musical authenticity.  Like the wood, water, and stone of the Sierra Nevada Mountains from which they hail, their sound is sculpted by a timeless aggregate of people and place.  This four-piece string band is on a resonant exploration of the human condition with the singular mission to make music that acts a conduit for genuine connectivity.  The resulting collection of original material has taken shape in rowdy and resilient tales of love and loss, intermingled with passionately precise instrumental interludes.  This open hearted approach to song craft, and all-in enthusiasm for live performance, have garnered The Brothers Strong a loyal and adoring fan base that is ever expanding beyond geography and genre.  We are thrilled for these local favorites to make their Strawberry debut at this year’s Fall Festival.

We are so excited and will be spending lots of time at Westside, in the coming weeks, as we plan to make Strawberry the best it can be in this beautiful space.  And while video may capture this incredible transformation better than photos can, there’s no substitute for seeing it in person.  We hope to see you, in person, at Strawberry Music Festival – Fall 2018!

WELCOMING WESTERN CENTURIES BACK TO THE FALL FEST

This summer, honky-tonk supergroup Western Centuries is touring to share and celebrate the new and original material on their most recent full length album.  Just released on April 6th, “Songs from the Deluge” brings together the band’s three songwriting voices into a more unified sound than ever before.  Together they weave a tapestry of western music that moves beyond the constraints of genre to successfully bridge the space between country, swing, roots, R&B, and Cajun styles.  With musical influences crossing vastly differing geographies, Western Centuries seamlessly transcends the divide between rural and urban soundscapes, providing listening audiences with a genuinely relatable and thoroughly enjoyable auditory experience.  As you can imagine, or may remember, they were a big hit at last year’s Fall Festival, so we are thrilled for them to return to Strawberry for the Fall 2018 Music Festival.  As a matter of fact, we can hardly contain our excitement to see you, and Western Centuries, at our home away from home for Labor Day weekend!
