Artist Summer Thompson creates colorful and vibrational hand-painted silk art from original designs. She will have hand-painted silk art in three sizes, hand dyed silk scarves and silk garments, greeting cards and prints of artwork, and digital printed t-shirts of art (small collection) available for purchase. Hand-dyed garments are hand dipped at specific outdoor conditions necessary and maneuvered by hand to create a nature design. This requires the same 10-step process as silk art.
Hand painting silk requires 10 steps:
1. Prewash all silk due to silk gum
2. Wash boards
3. Stretch silk to make taut and lifted above board
4. Draw design work
5. Hand brush liquid dye colors
6. Apply and remove salt at appropriate times
7. Roll in paper to steam set dyes for 2 1/2 hours
8. Remove and hand rinse repeatedly for 24 hours
9. Hang to dry
10. And finally, iron
