PERFORMER SPOTLIGHT – JASON LANG

Jason Lang had an early start. His first venture into the music biz was at the age of six, singing on a jingle that was pitched to McDonald’s. At twelve, he did his first professional studio session as a background singer, and by sixteen, he was sneaking into Montreal bars with his guitar slung over his shoulder, getting up on stage at every jam night he could find.

Soon enough, he was making records and performing with some of Canada’s most successful artists, starting with folk music royalty’s own Kate & Anna McGarrigle. As a multi-instrumentalist and recording engineer, he then traversed (for over 30 years) varied styles of music from zydeco to pop, with hugely successful albums and tours with the likes of Corey Hart, Isabelle Boulay, and Amanda Marshall.

With his latest release, Lang revisits the folk clubs of his youth with songs written and performed by his late mother, Canadian folk music icon Penny Lang. On his new album Handled with Care, he performs “infectious roots-rock renditions of 10 songs from her repertoire that are both faithful to the feel of her stripped-down fare, yet somehow sound perfectly contemporary.” – Montreal Gazette

This man of such mellifluous milieu, this jack-of-melodic-trades, will be celebrating music with us at Strawberry this spring. Let’s make him (and his mama’s sweet songs) oh-so welcome!
