PERFORMER SPOTLIGHT – ANNA MOSS

Vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Anna Moss hails from the verdant forests and lush limestone of the Ozarks; yet her musical personality oozes New Orleans, the artist’s adopted hometown for many years.

By January 2021, the pandemic still had the city—and Anna’s sanity—in a veritable vice grip, and this project gave her dreary days a purpose. Emerging from the ashes of this traumatic, dehumanizing spell: a phoenix of deeply personal compositions that would eventually comprise Amnesty, Anna Moss’s solo debut LP released in March 2024.

An intoxicating gumbo of bedroom pop and existential R&B, Amnesty is at once Anna’s potent opening salvo and a righteous rebirth. Anna’s newfound brand of sultry stripped-down-soul is steeped in Southern R&B, Americana, porch jazz; apocalyptic love songs, gritty hymns of humanity, abolition, and compassion busked to fruition in the historic French Quarter streets.

“The drummer was superb, the keyboardist was goofy and talented. […] And then, of course, Anna Moss herself has a powerful voice, distinctive songwriting style, and a great stage presence.” — T. Lee Brown, The Nugget Newspaper

We can’t wait to welcome Anna Moss to the Strawberry Stage on Friday, May 23rd!

PERFORMANCE DATABASE IS BACK AND TRIVIA CONTEST

We’ve been listening, and we have a long-awaited announcement. . .

The Strawberry Performance History Database is back! Check it out here.

The database is a draft list of over 2,400 performances which have occurred at the Strawberry Bluegrass Festivals or Strawberry Music Festivals, on either the Main Stage, Workshop Stage or at Amy’s Orchid Cafe, from 1982 until 2024. The database is searchable and sortable by year, date, band, festival, and even time of day!

We are celebrating the return of the Strawberry Performer Database with a trivia contest for a pair of single-day tickets!

PERFORMER SPOTLIGHT – BANANA SLUG STRING BAND

The Banana Slug String Band has been playing music for kids and families for 40 years.

The Slugs are environmental educators who met teaching in Outdoor Education in San Mateo County, deep in the redwood forests. Doug Dirt, Airy Larry, Marine Mark, and Solar Steve (their names representing sun, soil, water and air) are the “real deal.”

With the deep sense of purpose to promote positive environmental messages, these impassioned musicians, songwriters, performers, educators, and eco-warriors have an extraordinary ability to connect with children as they change the world, one child at a time!

The Slugs have brought their musical messages to noted festivals such as the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, High Sierra Music Festival, and their home festival, the Strawberry Music Festival, which they have played over 40 times!

We can’t wait to have the Banana Slug String Band on the Strawberry Stage AGAIN to celebrate their 40th anniversary as a band on Saturday, May 24th! Listen and learn more here.

PERFORMER SPOTLIGHT – SAM GRISMAN PROJECT

The music that Sam Grisman heard his father David Grisman and Jerry Garcia make in the early ’90s (in the house Sam grew up in) is not only some of the most timeless acoustic music ever recorded, it also triggers his oldest and fondest musical memories.

Sam’s aim in starting Sam Grisman Project is to build a container where he and his friends can showcase their genuine love and appreciation for the legacy of Dawg and Jerry’s music, the impact it has made on their own individual musical voices, and also to showcase the original music that their squad has to offer the world.

“It’s an absolute treat to travel the country with the people I care the most about, and to make great music and memories and friends everywhere we go.” – Sam Grisman, as told to Lindsey Terrell, The Bluegrass Situation

Join us for a lesson in love when Sam and his friends take the Strawberry Stage on Friday, May 23rd! Learn and listen here.
