Anthony Crawford is a veteran songwriter and multi-instrumentalist best known for performing more than 300 shows with Neil Young, touring and recording with Young’s bands including the Shocking Pinks, the International Harvesters, and the Electric Band, and appearing on Young’s Grammy-winning album Prairie Wind.
During that era Crawford also toured extensively with singer-songwriter Nicolette Larson, whom he met while performing with Neil Young. Larson brought Crawford on as her guitar player while he was recording in Los Angeles with producer Pete Anderson. Crawford has long been part of the extended Americana songwriter community, collaborating over the years with artists including Steve Winwood, Dwight Yoakam, Vince Gill, Rodney Crowell, and Steve Forbert, while his songs have been recorded by artists such as Steve Winwood, Dwight Yoakam, Kenny Rogers, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Sawyer Brown, Billy Burnette, Lee Greenwood, and Lorrie Morgan.
Crawford first appeared at Strawberry Music Festival around 1990 as a festival “tweener,” performing a short acoustic set between main stage artists during the era of John Hartford.
Now based on the Alabama Gulf Coast, Crawford performs with his wife and musical partner Savana Lee, presenting an intimate evening of songs and stories shaped by decades on the road.
Anthony Crawford with Savana Lee will perform on the Strawberry Main Stage on Thursday, May 21.
